Since 2016, Donald Trump has been lying about his nonexistent award.

Despite what he says, he was never named "Man of the Year" in Michigan in 2013. This past June, after a speech in Michigan, CNN wrote "for the third consecutive presidential election, former President Donald Trump is lying that he was named 'Man of the Year' in Michigan before he ran for president."

Last Sunday, New York Times reporter Peter Baker and co-workers reported in a story titled, "Trump’s Speeches, Increasingly Angry and Rambling, Reignite the Question of Age" that "he claims to have been named 'man of the year' in Michigan, although no such prize exists."

On Thursday, in his speech before the Detroit Economic Club at the MotorCity Casino Hotel, he knocked Baker of the fake New York Times. Trump explained that he pushed his people to find proof of the award. He said they did, and during his speech, he held up a May 2023 article in the Oakland Press that said he was given that award in 2013 at the Oakland County GOP Lincoln Day dinner.

"I was honored; and guesss what they found? I was," as the crowd broke out into a loud applause over what they saw as vindication.

After his speech, the Oakland Press corrected the record and said he never got such an award.

The publication wrote Thursday:

EDITOR’S NOTE: “A story published in May 2023 online and print editions of the Oakland Press reported that former President Donald Trump was honored with a Man of the Year award at the 2013 county GOP Lincoln Day dinner. A reference in the 2023 story, headlined “Oakland County GOP to honor Donald Trump,” about the 2013 award was incorrect. Trump was the keynote speaker at the 2013 dinner in Novi, which drew a record crowd. He was not honored as Man of the Year.

We’re setting the record straight after the former president incorrectly cited the 2013 Man of the Year award during a recent speech to the Detroit Economic Club.
