A Detroit animal handler accidentally left behind Wally, a three-foot-long dwarf alligator, at the Pine River Motel in Cheboygan, in northern Michigan.
The motel manager, Gary, who asked that his last name not be used, told the Detroit Free Press that the alligator was left behind last Thursday night in a room.
"We just went in to clean the room, and when my nephew looked under the bed, Wally was there," he told the Free Press. "He was a really friendly gator, so I didn't feel too scared. He let the police officers hold him and everything—I mean, he was a really friendly alligator."
"He was taking Wally to elementary schools and showing him to children," Gary said.
The owner was notified and drove back from Detroit to pick up Wally on Friday night.
